Hi,
I'm Paul Cavin,lead singer of my band One Life,henceforth the name of this website and the band...PaulCavin-OneLife. I've been performing since I was 12 years old, my hometown is Puunene,Maui,Hawaii. I've been a soloist performer and in several bands throughout my musical career and have also been a Dj [and still am now and then between band gigs]. I'm also a songwriter and our band does some of my originals as well as a variety of covers; some of those covers are done in our own style and arrangement.
I came to California to study music at El Camino College, while I was there I met other songwriters and that led to contracts and contacts at A&M Records, Capitol Records,Warner Bros Records, and Mike Curb Records. I returned to Maui to attend Maui Community College and took up music and drama studies as well as performing at local nightclubs, restaurants,and hotels. While I was on Maui, performing at the Sheraton Maui and the Pioneer Inn in Lahaina, I was offered a contract to go to Avalon,Catalina Island; where I performed at several nightclubs. That led to several other contracts in Orange County, and was offered a contract with Celebrities Incorporated, which sent me on the road throughout the west coast.
While I was doing a one man show at Bella Terra Amphitheater in Huntington Beach, I was offered a contract to be part of their Summer Concerts if I would get a band together; and that led to PaulCavin-OneLife, my latest and current band; a culmination of my life of music. My "one man shows" were seen at Seattles' Best Coffee in Chino, as well as Al Cappuccinos' in Fullerton for years, and the band does it "live" and for real, and crosses over genres that some may think not possible.
When I started to form the band in 2009; the goal and concept was the same as my roots on Maui; many cultures had mixed and blended their foods to make unique and exotic entrees that are well known throughout the world.
Some local bands on Maui did the same with their music; crossing over the boundaries and genres of music to express the emotions and thoughts of the band. Some said that should not be done; but I did it anyway, and still doing it today. It shows in my compositions if you listen very carefully, they are a reflection of my childhood on Maui. I listened to classical music, country, ethnic music from around the world, hawaiian,blues,soul,rock'n'roll,and gospel music. I learned early on as a child, music and dance is an expression of the human soul, and we are all individuals, and we all have something to say; sometimes I speak it, and other times my silence is louder than words; and then there's music . . .and I sing it!
